2022 brings a fresh new year and a new set of home design trends! After a spell of being shut in and with our movements still restricted to one extent or another, people have continued making changes to their own homes. From colour schemes to materials to garden-esque décor, we’ve got the low-down on what home design trends you can expect to see in 2022.
Nature-inspired Home Design
Think gentle floral fabrics, natural materials such as cork and bringing a little of the outside in. Green is a key colour for 2022, with softer greens being particularly on trend. Houseplants will continue their huge 2021 boom (UK sales are up 108%) as people look to nature for peace and sanctuary in their living spaces.
Statement Lighting
Lighting that packs a punch and is a key feature of a room. Think large lights over kitchen islands and dominating side tables. Lighting in 2022 is likely to have a 70’s feel as retro vibes shine in homes across the UK.
Upcycling is back!
Hello again 2014. With more emphasis on reuse and sustainability, doing up furniture will make a big comeback in 2022. We will see lots of chalk painted furniture again and décor with a vintage vibe.
Inside Outside
We’re talking more elaborate patio set-ups, arbours, pergolas and more. Think outside living rooms and dining areas with an element of cosy class. Clean, low-maintenance products like ColourFence and ColourRail will likely be popular as people continue to strive for work-life balance and use their gardens for relaxation.
Blue is new Black
Dulux have announced that their colour of the year for 2022 will be “Bright Skies”, a gentle yet optimistic colour, perhaps reflecting on the world’s hope for an end to Covid-19. Pantone is about to announce its 2022 colour of the year in the next few days! You will see these colours dominating fashion, home and packaging products in the coming months.
What home design trends are you looking forward to seeing in 2022? Is there anything in this list that particularly strikes your fancy or are you planning to go completely off-trend and pave your own way? There are of course, no hard and fast rules when it comes to home design, you do you!
Till next week.
