Over the last few days, we’ve posted some ideas which will help get your home and garden ready for All Hallows’ Eve! If you’re looking for a decoration which you can hang from your railings, windows or doors then why not give these wooden spider webs a try!
Items Needed
• Wooden sticks
• Coloured Paint
• Black or white string
• PVC/Prit-stick Glue
• Paintbrush
• Scissors
• Googly eyes & plastic spiders (optional)
Instructions
1. Take your wooden sticks and paint them with your chosen colour all over. We opted for orange, green, black and yellow!
2. Place your sticks on a flat surface and leave them to try – ensure that they are out of reach of children and pets.
3. Once your sticks are dry, take one stick and lie it flat. In the middle of the stick put some glue and then put another stick diagonally across that stick, pressing firmly on where the glue is. Make sure both sticks are connected by the middle section of the stick.
4. Now, put some more glue on the middle of the second stick you just placed and grab the third stick. You need to place this stick diagonally across it (so you build an ‘X’ with the two top sticks on top of a vertical stick)
5. Once the glue has dried, you can begin the web. Take your string (we used black and white) and place it where the sticks meet in the centre. With one finger, hold the string in place and then weave it over and under each stick going round in a clockwise direction until you have completed a full circle, then tie a knot to keep it in place. Ensure there isn’t much slack otherwise it will fall off.
6. From there you can start to make your way up the sticks, go from one stick to another making sure you wrap the string around the stick each time (this helps to keep it in place). Work your way all the way up until the web is complete.
7. Take a small bit of glue to seal the end of the string on the final stick and let it dry.
